Living Room Makeover for $50 #FreshAccents

 our family room.
Besides our dining room, this is the only gathering room in the house. It's our living room/family room/game room/scripture room/story room/teaching room, etc.  It's a very important room in our family, which is why it's important that it's warm and inviting.

I took on the challenge to re-do this space for less than $100.  I already had the board+batten and wall color in place from last year.  This room just needed to be spruced up a bit.

My freshly finished room:

The before:

It was okay, but there were a lot of things little things that I've been putting off.  Thanks to #FreshAccents, I was able to get a kick in the seat to motivate me!

Here is my list of things I accomplished:
  • New floor-to-ceiling curtains.
  • New pillows.
  • New lampshades.
  • Matching lamps.
  • Fresh coat of paint on buffet/tv stand.
  • Hide cords/cable box in buffet-turned-tv-stand.
  • Replaced coffee table.
  • Painted existing curtain hardware.
  • New sign above curtains.
And I did it all in 24 hours spending just over $50!

Cost breakdown:

  • Lampshades: $32 (Target)
  • Drop-cloth Curtains: $20 (Home Depot)
  • Free/Recycled: Mustard Yellow paint recycled from this project, oil rubbed bronze spray paint had on hand, handmade sign, pillows were hand-me-downs from Kristi, traded coffee tables with sis-in-law/neighbor.)
  • Total: $52.  Not too shabby!
And to think, it all started with the smell (:
It definitely needed #FreshAccents in here; don't you love to walk into a house that smells good?  I picked up a stylish Renuzit Fresh Accents at my local grocery store, Safeway.  I chose "after the rain" aroma... Mmmm.

See how well it blends in with my home decor?

Check out my shopping trip here. I was loving the price: only $2 with my $1 off coupon!

(Snag a coupon by sending a "gorgeous" e-card ;) And be sure to check out Renuzit on FB too.

Stay tuned later this week for the major renovation of the buffet turned tv console...  I'm excited to share some secrets with you (:

So, are YOU up for the living room challenge?
Try to re-do your gathering room for around $50; I promise you it's possible!

  19. Can you explain to me how you did your curtains... Did you buy them like that, or did you make them... I love them, and they would go nicely in my Family room... I like the connector things on top, and well everything!
