Recover a music mobile.

Alrighty ladies and gents,
here is our 1st tutorial kicking off LOLLYPALOOZA 2010!
{We are SO excited!!}

How to ReCoVeR a MuSiC MoBiLe:
I saw the Aiden crib set by Cocalo Couture and fell in love with it.... but not the price tag.
I found similar fabric at JoAnn's and decided I could make make everything but the mobile.  Luckily, I scored one on eBay for dirt cheap and as soon as it arrived, I simply wrapped coordinating chocolate ribbon around the outside, cut the fabric and wrapped it on the inside and hot glue'd my little heart out.
I unstitched the cute scooters and decided to replace them with studly little football players.
Mobile's come in all different shapes & sizes so be bold and make your own character's to make your child's room!  Be creative!  These little guys would also be adorable as gift tag's... I'm just saying, the possibilities are ENDLESS ;)
Back to the show!  So how, you ask?  Read on.... :)

Supplies. What you will need:

Step 1: Print off cute football figures (I printed mine in a dark chocolate color) onto white cardstock.
{Note: I got THIS font, which is free!  I wanted my figures about the same size as the original so I used 520 font size, which worked perfect!}
Step 2: Glue onto posterboard.
I used the wonderful, sticky  ModPodge.

Step 3: Glue your colored cardstock of choice onto the back of the posterboard.

Step 4:  Add a hole punch above the helmet for hanging onto the mobile.
[I used my MakingMemories hole punch with hammer but a regular 'ol Joe Schmoe holepunch works just as well.]

Step 5:  Cut around the image.
I like how the original had a border of white, so I gave myself about a cm space to pull off that same look.

After they were all cut out, I added an extra layer of ModPodge to give it that nice matte look and finish, making it nice & sturdy from the little fingers that will end up playing with it :)
Also, I ended up using scissors because it wasn't as thick as I anticipated but if you're handy with a box cutter, razor away!

Just look at how cute they are!
"Put me in the game, Coach!"

And a backside view....

Step 6: Simply reattach to the mobile and enjoy your new look!
I stitched it on the mobile to make it a bit more durability... because these are so lightweight, hot glue would work as well.

The final product:

And a few action shots.... literally :) Hee hee hee.

  10. That looks great! My hubby is a football coach so he's always said if we have a son, he'll have a sports-themed nursery. {Of course, I'm the decorator, so we'll see about that! ;)} Thanks for sharing!

  11. I've been staring at my son's old mobile for weeks now, trying to figure out how to make one that would work in his brother's nursery. Thank you so much for sharing this! I'm totally doing it!
