Fabric Magnet Board

     I helped a cute 17 yr old gal create this LaRGe custom magnet board for under $30.
She was so happy...that made ME happy!  *  Read on for her story & a DIY tutorial...

Let's journey back to July 2009...starting with WHITE WALLS.  {{insert "EEK!!" here!}}
We painted her walls two shades of her fave color, purple.
{All you need for QUICK & accurate stripes are 2 things: a level & painters tape!}

We added her favorite vinyl quote above her bed & make it her own space.

We painted ALL her furniture white from a dark stain...
...and customized her headboard with more vinyl!

She had just gotten back from Europe so an eiffel tower was a must.
***
Fast forward to the present, the little lady was needing a place to show off her friends.  I saw a fab idea HERE awhile back & knew for a little money we could jazz up her space!

DIY:

Step #1: Pick up some sheet metal in the PLUMBING section from Home Depot: $15

Step #2: For her fabric, she used a $7 clearance sheet matching her bedset.  Smart!  Lay the fabric with the pretty side down.  Hot glue the edges of the fabric around the backside of the sheet metal.

{finished view of step #2}
{optional tip but cleaner looking: tuck edges in, secure with hot glue}

Step #3: Mark screw holes with a nail beforehand for easy screwing when securing to the wall.

Step #4:Screw into wall.  Complete!
{Now she needs to make/buy some decorative magents to surround herself with smiles!}

Her cost breakdown: $15 sheet metal + $7 fabric + $1 drywall screws {didn't have any on hand} + $6 hot glue refill sticks {she had run out} = $29 total
* * *
If you already have scrap fabric, screws & hot glue sticks, your cost could be as low as $15.
Go make your own magnet board & SMILE!

  3. Hi! I am also a member of Barter Boutique, and I have a favor to ask...
    I am helping with the Relay for Life, and I have been asked to find donations of vinyl lettering that say "hope" for some picture frames to give to the cancer survivors involved. I am not sure on the size- probably pretty small since they will go on picture frames, but I was wondering if that is something you may be able to do? Anything will help! Just let me know:) Thanks so much!

  4. Oh I can't thank you enough for helping us out with these "survivor gifts"! I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Losing someone close to you from an illness like that is a real eye opener, but it has helped me to have more opportunities to serve others, specifically with the Relay for Life, which I am grateful for!
    So this is what we need: 75 "hope" words, 1 inch high- any color. I know that 75 is a lot though!! So we would appreciate ANY that you could donate. I completely understand if you can't do all 75!:) Just let me know! Thanks so so much again!!
